The application of fiberglass and methods for distinguishing its quality

In the past fifty years, the FRP industry has developed rapidly and is an important component of the composite materials industry. 70% of the production of fiberglass is used to manufacture FRP. FRP is lightweight and hard, non-conductive, with stable performance, high mechanical strength, and corrosion resistance. It is used as fuel tank and pipeline on jet aircraft, which can reduce the weight of the aircraft. The astronauts who landed on the moon carried miniature oxygen cylinders made of fiberglass. FRP is easy to process, does not rust or rot, and does not require paint. China has widely used fiberglass to manufacture various small boats, lifeboats, yachts, as well as the automobile manufacturing industry, saving a lot of steel.

Chemical plants also use fiberglass made of synthetic resin materials instead of stainless steel to make various corrosion-resistant equipment, greatly extending the service life of the equipment. Fiberglass is non-magnetic and does not block the passage of electromagnetic waves. Using it as a radar cover for missiles is like wearing a pair of protective glasses on the missile, which not only does not block the radar's line of sight but also provides protection.

In the 21st century, due to the excellent wave permeability and performance of fiberglass, with the widespread popularity of mobile communication, fiberglass is widely used in the manufacturing of 2G and 3G antenna covers. With its good formability and aesthetic appearance, fiberglass has played a good role in small area beautification. Products in this area include square column wire covers, simulation stones, and outdoor application beautification trees. In addition, fiberglass has also made great contributions to improving the level of sports. After the emergence of the new fiberglass pole, due to its lightweight and elastic properties, the record for pole high jump has risen rapidly, and today's pole high jump record has exceeded the 6-meter record.

Today, fiberglass is also widely used in people's lives. People affectionately call it "FRP". Due to its special varieties that still retain many advantages of glass, such as transparency, people use it as doors and windows, which can block ultraviolet rays in the sunlight and make the room bright. People also use it to make various sturdy and durable daily necessities, such as bathware, kitchen utensils, grooming utensils, etc.

1、 Material selection
The raw materials used in fiberglass are resin, fiberglass, and other supporting auxiliary materials configured in appropriate proportions. High quality fiberglass uses high-quality resin with low viscosity, low heat release, low shrinkage, high-speed curing, high-speed compatibility, and bright glossiness.

2、 Comparison of finished products
High quality fiberglass products have no obvious cracks in appearance, fewer pores, bright and pure colors, good transparency, good toughness, high strength, good surface smoothness, and long service life; Poor quality fiberglass products have cracks on their appearance, numerous pores, impure colors, and insufficient glossiness. Its service life is also relatively short.

3、 Durability: Time is the Fairest Referee
Fiberglass can also demonstrate its true strength in actual use. High quality fiberglass has a slightly dull color after a few years of use, and remains intact without obvious damage. Poor quality fiberglass cannot withstand inspection over time, and after a few years of use, it will show obvious damage such as corrosion, fracture, and pores. Its shape is not so flat, and its color deteriorates severely, resulting in overall aging. Generally, high-quality fiberglass needs to be used for twenty years, but after two years, low-quality fiberglass will experience overall aging, causing huge losses to customers. So we would like to remind our customers not to choose inferior fiberglass products at a low price and lose out on small gains!

There are several methods to distinguish the quality of fiberglass:
1. Dimensional tolerances for external dimensions (inside grid, outside grid)
2. Appearance (Unwanted defects: exposed fibers, whitening, pits, fractures, uneven fibers, etc.)
3. Bakol hardness
4. Concentrated load and uniformly distributed load
5. Resin content
6. The simplest and easiest way to identify the quality of fiberglass is to place it directly on cement or ceramic tiles, and you will hear a clear steel sound, which is qualified fiberglass.
